New Zealand’s Navajo Stirling kept his unbeaten streak alive with a unanimous decision win over Croatia’s Ivan Erslan in Montreal. Judges scored the bout 29-28, 29-28, and 29-27 in favour of Stirling after a hard-fought three-round battle.
Round 1: Erslan starts strong with clean counters
Erslan took early control of the fight, landing crisp counterpunches and opening a cut between Stirling’s eyes. While Stirling attempted to establish distance with kicks, Erslan’s accuracy and timing gave him the edge in the first round.
Round 2: Stirling fights back with takedown and top control
The second frame was far more balanced. Erslan again began well, taking Stirling’s back and pressing him against the cage. But Stirling reversed the position, scored a key takedown, and began landing effective ground strikes. The round ended with both men having their moments in a close contest.
Round 3: Stirling dominates with jabs and ground-and-pound
Stirling came out firing in the final round, landing sharp jabs and heavy right hands. He rocked Erslan midway through the round, secured a takedown, and delivered over a minute of punishing ground-and-pound. Though Erslan managed to survive, the momentum was firmly in Stirling’s corner.
