Quillan Salkilld submits Mateusz Gamrot in first round at UFC Vegas 120

Australian lightweight Quillan Salkilld has secured the biggest victory of his career, submitting Mateusz Gamrot in the opening round of their UFC Vegas 120 main event.
The 26-year-old Perth product finished the highly regarded Polish grappler with a rear-naked choke at 4:25 of Round 1 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Salkilld made an immediate impact with his striking before Gamrot attempted to bring the fight into his preferred grappling territory. The Australian remained composed, defended an early leg-lock attempt and eventually secured a takedown of his own.
From there, Salkilld took Gamrot’s back and applied the choke, forcing the former KSW champion to tap with just 35 seconds remaining in the round.
The result improved Salkilld’s professional record to 13–1 and extended his UFC run to six consecutive victories. It was also his fourth straight finish and came in his first UFC main event.
Gamrot entered the contest as one of the lightweight division’s most accomplished wrestlers, making the method of Salkilld’s victory particularly significant. It was only the second submission defeat of Gamrot’s professional career.
Following the win, Salkilld called for an opponent ranked inside the lightweight top five as he continues his rapid rise through the division.
The official UFC rankings are expected to be updated following the event, but a first-round finish over an established contender places Salkilld firmly among Australia’s leading UFC title prospects.
