Sean Gauci moves to 12-1 as ‘The Other Bus’ journey continues at PFL New York

Australian bantamweight Sean Gauci has extended his winning run, defeating Allan Begosso by unanimous decision at PFL New York.

The victory at UBS Arena on Long Island improved Gauci’s professional record to 12-1 and marked his second win under the PFL banner. It was also the 29-year-old’s ninth consecutive victory.

Gauci entered the bout following a successful promotional debut against former Cage Warriors champion Liam Gittins at PFL Belfast in April. After another three-round decision in New York, he remains unbeaten since joining the promotion.

The record presents a clean picture of a fighter building momentum on the international stage. The journey behind it has been considerably more complicated.

In Australian MMA Magazine Issue #003, Gauci opens up about that journey in The Other Bus, a six-page feature written by Toby Maher.

The title refers to the night Gauci defeated Anthony Drilich on Dana White’s Contender Series in October 2024. Despite winning the fight with a badly damaged right hand, Gauci was not awarded a UFC contract.

Instead of leaving to meet Dana White alongside the newly signed fighters, Gauci and his corner departed on a separate bus.

“My hand’s throbbing, no green whistle, nothing, just my hand was shattered. And it just hit me at that moment: I’ve cooked it,” Gauci recalled.

“I cried a lot on that bus. I’ve never won a fight and felt like I lost.”

That moment is only one part of a career shaped by setbacks, long periods away from competition and a return to the sport that was never guaranteed.

The Other Bus explores Gauci’s introduction to fighting, the influence of his father, champion jockey Darren Gauci, and the coach who first convinced him that he could build a future in MMA. It also reveals the health battle that brought his career to a halt just as he appeared to be closing in on a major opportunity.

His latest victory provides a new chapter to that story.

Gauci is now 12-1, riding nine straight wins and undefeated across his first two PFL appearances. His ambitions extend beyond his own results, with the Australian also discussing his desire to help bring the promotion to Australia and create greater opportunities for the country’s flyweights.
