Brodie Mayocchi: The Undiscovered Gem Ready to Shine at Hex 35

Brodie Mayocchi is one of Australia’s most promising MMA prospects, returning to the cage at Hex Fight Series 35 after a year of grinding in the shadows at City Kickboxing. At just 20, he's already trained alongside UFC elites and now faces Arty Trepka in what could be a career-launching clash. As Mitchell Tinley puts it, “I think he could very well be the breakout star of 2025.

Australia's next breakout star steps back into the cage after over a year on the sidelines, and the hype is very real.

At just 20 years old, Brodie Mayocchi is being whispered about in MMA circles as something rare, a fighter with real next-level potential who’s been flying under the radar. But that low profile may not last long.

The Queensland-born lightweight hailing from inland Queensland (Innisfail pop approx: 7824) returns to action at Hex Fight Series 35 on May 31st, squaring off against fellow blue-chip prospect Arte Trepca in what many insiders are calling the most exciting non-title fight in Australian MMA this year.

“I think he could very well be the breakout star of 2025,”

said 'Australian MMA' podcast host Mitchell Tinley. And it’s hard to argue.

A Year in the Shadows, A Lifetime of Work

After earning a full scholarship to City Kickboxing, New Zealand’s most decorated MMA gym, Mayocchi spent the past year sharpening his tools alongside the likes of Dan Hooker, Israel Adesanya, and Carlos Ulberg. But fight opportunities were scarce. Despite training full-time with world-class athletes, Mayocchi remained sidelined for over 12 months.

“I was taking kickboxing fights in car parks just to stay sharp,” he laughed. “Anything I could get.”

Yet through that inactivity, his stock has only grown. Those close to the gym rave about his composure, grappling pedigree, and well-rounded fight IQ — all honed in the shark tank of City Kickboxing.

The Fight That Could Launch a Star

Mayocchi’s matchup with Arte Trepca isn’t just a fight, it’s a litmus test. Two elite young prospects squaring off well before the sport typically allows it.

“You just don’t see fights like this on prelims,”

Tinley noted.

“It’s the kind of matchup that could headline a card in two years, but we’re getting it now. Whoever wins is instantly catapulted into the fast lane.”

Mayocchi agrees.

“This is the type of test I’ve been waiting for,” he said. “I know I can hang with the best. This fight is going to prove it.”

Built Different

What makes Mayocchi compelling isn’t just his mullet or his magnetic on-camera charisma. It’s his resilience. With his year-long sponsorship now ended, he’s been funding his fight career out of his own pocket, training up to five hours a day, working private PTs, and leaning on his partner for support.

His commitment? Unquestioned.

His belief? Unshakeable.

And his goal? Crystal clear.

“If I’m not making it by 25, I’ll know I’ve taken the wrong path,” he said. “But right now, I’m all-in. And I know I belong.”

Prediction and Legacy

Expect fireworks on May 31st. Mayocchi sees a second-round finish, and while the respect is mutual between both corners, this is a fight that could shape the trajectory of Oceanic MMA for years to come.

The quote that sums it up best?

“It’s not a title fight — but it might be the most important fight of the night.”
