“I didn’t lose, I ran out of time”: George Mangos opens up after DWCS setback and targets fast return

Sydney featherweight George Mangos (7–1) from Lion’s Den Academy joins the Australian MMA Podcast to unpack his decision loss to Radley Da Silva on Dana White’s Contender Series. He did not secure a UFC contract this time, but at 22 he is already back on the mats, reviewing the tape and planning the fastest possible return.

The debrief

Mangos is blunt about the fight. He says Da Silva “fought not to lose” and admits he was too comfortable off his back. He trusted his submission game while the clock slipped away. Head coach Luke Pezzutti and the team have since reset the approach. Urgency first, then offence. Expect a version of Mangos who treats every second on bottom as a must-escape moment.

A rare DWCS moment with Dana White

Minutes after leaving the venue, Mangos was called back inside. Dana White told him he is young, belongs at that level and will be seen again. UFC matchmakers followed up with the same message. Stack a couple of quality wins and be ready in 2026.

Mindset and what is next

The first professional loss hurt. Mangos watched it countless times, then went straight back to work. He wants an international rebound and is open to UAE Warriors and other offshore options. He would love to be in the mix for UFC Sydney if results line up, and he has an eye on PFL Australia as well. Above all, he wants one more fight before the end of the year.

Before his own return, Mangos flies to Las Vegas to corner unbeaten teammate Marwan Rahiki (6–0) on 14 October for his Contender Series opportunity. His prediction is simple. A finish and a contract for Rahiki.

Rankings chat and UFC Perth

There is some good-natured talk about regional pound-for-pound spots, praise for teammate Rahiki and respect for Darcy Vendy. Mangos also weighs in on UFC Perth, including the Jake Matthews vs Neil Magny refereeing debate, noting how momentum can shift when a bout is paused.
